IEC 'complete disaster' on election day, says Steenhuisen
DA leader John Steenhuisen believes the chaos at some voting stations on Wednesday, in all probability, cost the party valuable votes.
This comes after scores of voters left polling stations across the country without casting their ballots due to long queues, power outages and equipment failures.
Speaking at the IEC’s national results centre in Midrand on Friday, Steenhuisen said they are considering legal recourse.
Steenhuisen said it is unacceptable for the IEC to be battling various technical glitches on voting day.
"The IEC has been a complete disaster in this election. Our biggest opponent was not on the ballot paper.
"I think they are going to be responsible for at least 1% worth of vote share for us. A lot of people were turned away and were unable to practice their democratic rights.
"You have got one job and five years to prepare for it, and this is the omnishambles that you produce," said Steenhuisen.
