IEC in KZN: Vote counting will conclude on Thursday

The Independent Electoral Commission in KZN says vote counting for the 2024 general election will conclude on Thursday.

Provincial Electoral Officer Ntombifuthi Masinga told the media during a briefing that 98 voting districts in KZN are still counting ballots.
"In terms of the capturing of the results, we expect to conclude the capturing of results, including auditing, by midday tomorrow (Friday). In terms of the announcement of the preliminary results together with the preliminary seat allocation, we are scheduled to do that on Sunday at this venue.
"The final results in terms of the law have to be gazetted within seven days of voting."
By 1 pm on Thursday, the uMkhonto we Sizwe party maintained its lead, having received over 97,000 votes in the province.
The ANC fell to second place, with around 45,291 votes.
The IFP and DA were third and fourth, with more than 42,000 votes and 23,666, respectively.
More than 11% of the provincial results are in.
Nationally, the ANC sat on 42% of the votes, followed by the DA with 25% and the EFF with 8.7%.
The MK party is not far behind the red berets with 8% of the votes nationally.
