IFP victorious in Nquthu
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced the results of the fiercely-contested by-election in Nquthu in northern KZN.

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) won 14 wards, with the African National Congress (ANC) only taking three.
The IEC's Deputy Chairperson Terry Tselane says the voter turnout was surprisingly high.
"We've had an increased voter turnout in this election, in spite of the fact that it was not a public holiday. It is largely because this election has really generated a lot of interest," says Tselane.

Tselane says they are satisfied that the election was free and fair.
Nquthu was the only area in the country who have not elected councillors since last year's local government elections.
