Inflation rate up in August
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Consumer inflation has increased marginally.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen from 4.6% in July to 4.8% in August.
That's according to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) who made the announcement on Wednesday morning.
Stats SA says the biggest contributors to the CPI include transport, alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

Director and chief economist of Econometrix Dr Azar Jammine says the increase was anticipated as fuel prices had risen in August.
"At the margin could well sign off the decision by the Monetary Policy Committee to reduce the repo rate by a quarter of a percent, but one is uncertain whether there will be any further rate cuts," Jammine explains.
Motorists will also likely be forking out more at the petrol pumps in October.
The Automobile Association (AA) has predicted a third consecutive fuel price increase for next month.
It forecasts a price hike of 35 cents a litre for petrol, 33 cents for diesel and 29 cents for illuminating paraffin.
