Jacob Zuma Foundation lashes NPA for seeking trial delay
The Jacob Zuma Foundation has lashed out at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for seeking to postpone the former president’s trial to 2021.
The former president is due to go on trial in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on charges of corruption linked to the multi-billion rand arms deal.
The trial was due to start on May 6, but the outbreak of Covid-19 forced yet another postponement.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has now sent a letter to the Zuma’s legal team, in which it asks to move the trial to next year.
In a statement, the foundation bashed the NPA for accusing the former president of using delay tactics to avoid heading to court.
"The foundation thus places on record as previously stated, that former President JG Zuma is ready to proceed with the trial immediately and that it is now the State that is seeking postponement of the trial on a variety of frivolous grounds at this point.”
