Jennifer Ferguson adamant court not the way to go
Updated | By Laila Majiet & Sibahle Motha
Former ANC MP and singer Jennifer Ferguson says she would be "gobsmacked" if Danny Jordaan apologised for what he did.
Ferguson has accused the soccer boss of raping her 24 years ago.
She took to her blog a few weeks ago and wrote about her rape ordeal.
The SAFA boss finally broke his silence on Wednesday.
He denies the allegations and insists a court of law is the best place to test Ferguson's claims.
Jacaranda FM News has spoken to Ferguson following Jordaan's statement.
She says: "I would have been completely gobsmacked if he had come out and said 'I'm sorry that I did it and I've got a problem'."
Jordaan issued a statement through his lawyer Mamodupi Mohlala Mulaudzi
"Ms Ferguson has alleged that Dr Jordaan raped her 24 years ago. Dr Jordaan denies that he raped Ms Ferguson," Mulaudzi says.
"Dr Jordaan's perceived silence in the face of such serious allegations is because of his empathy with the victims of gender-based violence. Dr Jordaan has, however, after careful consideration decided to assert his innocence."
The lawyer suggests Ferguson resolve the matter through the courts as opposed to through restorative justice as she has suggested.
However, Ferguson says the court process escalates the trauma.
Another woman has since come forward with similar allegations. She told Jacaranda FM in an exclusive interview that in 2004, she too found herself in a room with Jordaan. She alleges it was in his executive suite in a Sandton hotel in Johannesburg.
She said that she "counts herself lucky that she got away from a persistent Jordaan". The woman, whose identity has been withheld at her request, but who is known to Jacaranda FM, claims that Jordaan "made his intentions for that late afternoon very clear". Jordaan has not responded to repeated attempts by Jacaranda FM to obtain comment on this more recent allegation.
