The Health Department says eligible citizens will be able to receive their Johnson and Johnson (J&J) booster dose from Friday.
The booster dose will become available to those who have been vaccinated at least two months ago with their initial J&J shot.
Health spokesperson Foster Mohale says the booster doses are available from Friday.
“From 24th December 2021 the National Vaccination Programme will provide J&J booster vaccinations to anyone who received their last dose at least 2 months ago, so therefore prior the 24th October 2021.”
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) approved the J&J vaccine as a booster dose on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Pfizer booster dose will also become available to citizens just before the end of the month.
“From 28th December 2021 the National Vaccination Programme will provide Pfizer booster vaccinations to anyone who received their last dose at least 6 months since the second primary dose.
“Booster doses are the same vaccine in the same dose administered to people who have had a primary vaccination series and are administered to allow the body to boost its immunity to the COVID-19 virus,” says Mohale
