JMPD probing officers for ‘encouraging’ speedster

Joburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the department has launched an investigation into allegations that a group of its officers urged a motorist to break the speed limit.
A video of the incident has been making the rounds on social media.
The two officers are heard asking a man driving a luxury German car to drive at high speed.
The officers, whose faces are not shown in the video, are heard complimenting the car before asking how fast it can drive.
Fihla says it will be difficult to identify the officers from the video.
“The JMPD will investigate this matter but from viewing the video, it is difficult to identify the officers and it will make it difficult for any action to be currently taken.
“For a comprehensive investigation to be completed, the department will need concrete information of when and where exactly the incident happened.”
He adds that the metro police take a dim view of such behaviour.
“The JMPD does not approve of this type of behaviour from the motorist and from the officers, especially from the officers, who are expected to know better.
“They are entrusted to uphold the law and ensure that compliance is adhered to at all times.”
