JMPD seizes 56 bales of dagga in Linbro Park
The Johannesburg metropolitan police's Tactical Response Unit (TRU) intercepted a vehicle transporting dagga on the M2 towards the Johannesburg CBD on Thursday.
The JMPD arrested two suspects after finding two bales of cannabis in the vehicle and charged them with possession of dagga.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says after questioning, the suspects admitted to transporting illegal drugs for sale in the Yeoville area.
"A follow-up investigation, based on information provided by the suspects, led officers to a self-storage facility on Hilton Road in Linbro Park," said Fihla.
"At the storage facility, the JMPD team discovered an additional 54 bales of dagga, bringing the total seizure to 56 bales of dagga".
He said the suspects have been detained at Sandringham Police Station.
"An unlicensed firearm and 13 live rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the vehicle".
