Joburg cuts water at Gautrain station over debt
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The City of Johannesburg has cut water supply to the Gautrain station in Sandton due to unpaid municipal rates owed to the city by the property’s landlord.
Cedar Park Properties, which owns the property where the station is situated, allegedly owes the city R8 million for water, refuge, sewerage and property rates.
The city claims the property group has been receiving “free municipal services for the past 6 years and shops alongside the Gautrain Station, up until Rivionia Road in Sandtion, will be affected by the water cut”.

Joburg city spokesperson Lufuno Mashau adds that the city has not received a payment since the group paid a partial debt payment of R600 000 in 2018.
"The Cedar Park company owes the city about R8 million, we have had engagements with them as early back as August 2018 at which point, we managed to resolve a query they had on their water bill."
