Joburg insources 1 000 security officers

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba on Wednesday announced the insourcing of 1 000 security guards.
The new members bring the total number of security guards contracted by the city's municipal entities to 3 800.
"We're excited as the new multiparty government. The residents of Johannesburg said they wanted change today on workers day we are doing the second phase of the ensuring of security guards.
"Last year, as the residents are aware, we took in a number of 2 800. Today we giving letters to 938 security officers who are going to be starting work on the first of July."

Mashaba says the salaries will increase by 15% and include benefits.
"We are excited to use this as a Workers Day to giving out officers - what I always call the forgotten people. People who used to be exploited by tenderpreneurs who were politically connected.
"These officers their salaries will increase by a minimum of 15% with benefits. So we are excited with these developments where we are dealing with the inequality that is persisting in our country to really give dignity to these officers but more importantly to their families."
MMC for public safety Michael Sun and MMC for group corporate and shared services Ntombi Khumalo will join Mashaba for the welcome ceremony at the Johannesburg metro police academy on Wednesday morning.
