Joburg to launch multi-million rand transport project
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba will launch the new Sandton Public Transport loop tomorrow.
The new development will include a dedicated public transport lane.
The city says the Sandton Public Transport loop forms part of efforts to fast-track economic growth.
Spokesperson Siyanda Makhubo says the project will go live on September 18.
"This is to improve access to public transport, reduce travelling time and for convenience. It will be operated by Gautrain, Putco, Metrobus and minibus taxis," says Makhubo.
The first phase of the project, in partnership with Johannesburg Development Agency, has been completed and focuses on the Sandton-Alexandra area.
"The dedicated lane will be along Rivonia Road, Fredman Drive and 5th Street. It will also include information points for passengers on the route. We will be seeking public feedback on whether the project meets its intended objective," says Makhubo.
