Johannesburg Mayor Jolidee Matongo has died in a car crash.

Matongo, who has been at the helm of the city since August, died in a car crash on Saturday.
He was 46.
He earlier attended the African National Congress (ANC) election registration events in the city.
The events were also attended by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Matongo took over the running of the country’s biggest city from the late former mayor Geoff Makhubo, who passed away from Covid complications in early July.
Prior to his election as mayor, he served as the member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for finance.
Matongo was born in Soweto, south of Johannesburg.
