Speaker calls sitting to settle vacant Joburg manager post

The Speaker of the Johannesburg Council has called an extraordinary meeting to discuss the vacant City Manager post.
This comes after the High Court in Johannesburg ordered Floyd Brink to vacate office – after finding that his City Manager appointment was irregular.
Speaker Nobuhle Mthembu called the meeting to consider the ratification report, which formalises the appointment of the acting City Manager, Tshepo Makola.
The acting city manager is expected to hold office for a renewable period of three months while the recruitment process for a permanent appointment is underway.
Action SA’s Zark Lebatlang says they welcome the move.
“Action SA believes it's critical to appoint an accounting officer who will play a critical role in stabilising the city but, most importantly, in ensuring that service delivery takes centre stage. The City of Johannesburg needs an impartial city manager who will be able to spearhead the city through the current tribulations. We demand the prioritisation of the restoration of Bree Street, addressing the water crisis and electricity supply.”
The extraordinary meeting is expected to take place on Friday.
