Joburg ‘won’t be bullied’ into restoring water to Sandton’s Gautrain station
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The high court in Johannesburg dismissed an application from Cedar Park Properties to force the city to reconnect the water supply to the Gautrain station in Sandton.
The city cut the water supply on September 7, accusing the company of not paying for municipal rates and services since the registration of the property in its name in 2013.
Gautrain has since provided portable toilets for commuters.

The court also heard on Friday that the landlords have filed for business rescue and could liquidate the company.
Mayoral spokesperson Tony Taverna-Turisam says Herman Mashaba was concerned that the landlords would not be able to cover the costs of litigation.
"Judge Makhume of the high court has now given Cedar Park 20 day to provide the R1 million security (to cover the costs of litigation), failing which the city has been granted leave to apply for dismissal of this case. Ultimately the city remains confident they can win this case and we are unapologetic for cutting the water supply.
"The city cannot reconnect water to defaulting corporate customers who think they can bully the city of Johannesburg into submission."
