Dlamini died on Thursday morning after a short illness.

He was 53.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says Dlamini served municipal workers across the country with distinction.

"This revolutionary and champion of the working class never wavered nor tired but used every ounce of his energy and every fibre of his being to pursue the struggle of the working class with remarkable zeal and commitment.”

Dlamini was also the deputy provincial chairperson of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in KwaZulu-Natal.

"The ANC salutes him for his steadfast commitment to justice and for the total emancipation of the people of South Africa from oppression and exploitation," says Mabe.

"The ANC sends its heartfelt condolences to his family, the entire labour movement and the mass democratic movement. We wish them strength and fortitude during this difficult moment."
