Jozini truck driver appears in court

A 43-year-old man accused of ploughing his truck into cars and pedestrians in the Jozini CBD in northern KwaZulu-Natal appeared in court on Friday.
Police detained the man on Wednesday after his truck ploughed into several cars while he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The truck ploughed into two buses, one minibus taxi, one bakkie and a car amongst others.
Eight people were declared dead on the scene, while paramedics treated 32 other people for moderate to critical injuries.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the province Natasha Kara says Sipho Ntuli appeared at the Ubombo Magistrates Court on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and 8 counts of culpable homicide.
"The matter was remanded to 19 June for bail application."
