Judge President Ledwaba lays complaint against Judge Phahlane
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Gauteng High Court Acting Judge President Ledwaba has laid a formal complaint against Judge Portia Phahlane with the Judicial Service Commission on Friday.
Phahlane is accused of accepting a bribe of more than R2 million for a favourable ruling in an International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) succession battle.
In November, Chief Justice Mandisa Maya placed Phahlane on special leave pending a decision on her possible suspension.

Phahlane, her son Kagiso Phahlane and businessman Vusi Ndala are among several people charged in connection with an alleged multimillion-rand corruption, theft and money-laundering scheme linked to the long-running leadership battles inside the IPHC.
In a statement, the Office of the Chief Justice stated that the matter has been referred to the Judicial Conduct Committee, which will consider submissions from both sides before deciding on the next steps.
"In the light of the referral of this complaint to the JCC, both AJP Ledwaba as complainant, and Judge Phahlane as the respondent against whom the complaint has been launched, have been given until the 27th of February to make submissions for consideration by the JCC as already mentioned.
"It is also confirmed that now that the JSC is in full control of this matter, Judge Phahlane will not preside in any part-head matter until the JSC complaint process has run its course, in line with the bail conditions imposed in the criminal proceedings against Judge Phahlane."
