Judgement expected over validity of the ANC EC conference

The application was brought by some disgruntled ANC members, who wanted to declare the past weekend EC conference invalid.

The conference saw Oscar Mabuyane being elected as the new Chairperson for the province.

Newly elected Secretary, Lulama Ngcukayitobi says the court application challenging the legitimacy of the elected executive will not nullify the conference.

"The intention of the interdict was to make sure the conference doesn't go ahead a few days ago. The judgement was reserved for today post the conference," says Ngcukayitobi.

Ngcukayitobi believes the interdict brought against the party lacked credibility and emergency which is the reason judgement was reserved. 

"The conference started and concluded without any hindrance with court proceedings, and there is nothing that will nullifying that conference from where we are seated," adds Ngcukayitobi.

Meanwhile there have been media reports that there is another court case that is set to go ahead against the ANC EC conference.

However Ngcukayitobi says the party could not speak on the matter as they have not been served with any papers.

Political Analyst from Unisa, Dr Dirk Kotze believes this is only the beginning of the party's court woes.

"My expectation is that there will be a court challenge and as I understand is they will try to stop it," says Kotze. 

"Therefore this will not be the final say in this matter," says Kotze.
