KPMG, Zuma, iPhoneX dominate headlines
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
The media monitoring organisation ROi Africa says the latest developments surrounding auditing firm KPMG has been dominating news headlines since Friday.
While the story only broke on Friday, ROi says KPMG made up of almost a third of domestic news coverage.
It was followed by reports surrounding Zimbabwean first lady Grace Mugabe, after she was accused of assaulting South African model Gabriella Engels in a Sandton hotel.
As for the reaction to the news items on social media, the #ZumaMustFall hashtag continued to dominate discussion making up 19.6% of the conversation.
It was followed by #SpyTapes (17.6%), #Guptas (12%) and Steve Biko (10.2%) - as South Africans marked 40 years since the death of the Black Consciousness leader this week.
Curiously enough, the Springboks' historic 57-0 defeat against the All Blacks was largely ignored on social media as politics continued to dominate.
International coverage offer a shock
Two storms took the lion's share of international news coverage namely: Hurricane Irma (40.9%) and Hurricane Harvey (18.9%).
But ROi Africa's Tonya Khoury says the statistics on the violence in Rohingya "particularly infuriated" her given the large number of people that have either been killed or diplaced.
"The genocide in Rohingya came in at 3.6%... it's half the size of the launch of the iPhoneX, you can't make this stuff up," explains Khoury.
The recent bombing in London, as well as developments in North Korea also enjoyed more media coverage than the violence in Myanmar.
