Krejcir sentencing proceedings kick off today
Updated | By ANA
The Johannesburg High Court is expected to sentence Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir and five co-accused on Wednesday.
In August, Judge Colin Lamont found Krejcir, Desai Luphondo, Warrant Officer Samuel Modise Maropeng, Jan Lefu Mofokeng and Siboniso Miya guilty of the attempted murder of Bheki Lukhele.
George Jeff Nthoroane was found guilty of common assault.
All six men were found guilty of kidnapping.
A heavy police presence is expected in court, after authorities foiled a Krejcir prison escape attempt last month.
Several items were recovered from his cell including cellphones, ammunition and a pistol which authorities believe was part of his escape bid.
And on Tuesday, an estate agent appeared in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court after an iphone was discovered hidden in a shoe when she visited Krejcir at the Zonderwater prison where he is being held.
The woman, who was released on R3000 bail, was allegedly trying to smuggle the phone to Krejcir. The phone, which was hidden in a pair of shoes she was to deliver for Krejcir, rang alerting prison authorities to the anomaly.
