Kruger National Park visitors warned against heavy downpours
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Kruger National Park has issued a weather warning for visitors planning to enter the park this weekend.
This, as the South African Weather Service predicts heavy rainfall across Mpumalanga and Limpopo from Saturday through to Monday. Some areas are expected to receive up to 50mm of rain.
Thunderstorms and localised flooding are also on the cards.
The rainfall is expected to start on the western side of the Kruger National Park, spreading to the eastern sections later in the weekend, which may affect travel conditions.
Visitors are advised to avoid low-lying areas and riverbeds, use extreme caution on gravel roads, and keep up to date with weather alerts.
Guests are also encouraged to travel early, return to their accommodation before heavy rain sets in, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and well supplied.
"The Kruger National Park is committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors, and we urge everyone to consider these weather warnings as part of their trip planning. We are grateful for your understanding and cooperation during this time," said Sanparks spokesperson JP Louw
He adds that while the rain will enhance the park’s natural beauty, visitor safety remains a priority.
