A number of South African airlines were battling to take to the skies as planned on Tuesday morning.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) clipped Comair's wings with Kulula and British Airways flights grounded on Monday evening in the wake of an audit of one of its maintenance and technical service providers, South African Airways Technical (SAAT).
SAA's Tladi Tladi says it has also been affected by the findings with some aircraft being recalled in order to undergo a compliance certification process.
He says 4 domestic flights have been affected, and that contingency measures have been implemented.

In a statement on Comair's website, the airline says affected aircraft may not be flown until the necessary corrective action has been carried out.
"Comair have contingency plans in place and aim to minimise any disruption to its operations," it maintains. "We will keep our customers updated. Customers can check their latest flight status on the relevant websites – ba.com and kulula.com.
"Comair customers with urgent enquiries can call 011 921 0222 for British Airways or 086 158 5852 for Kulula or reach out to us via Kulula’s social media platforms."
Comair has apologised to customers for any inconvenience to their travel plans.
"Comair is committed to providing a safe, secure, reliable and quality airline service to its customers. The safety and security of our customers and personnel is our foremost priority and is never compromised," it said.
