The Kwa-Zulu Natal Education Department will be making its way to Maritzburg College on Monday morning, following a photo of three learners doing the rounds on social media and showing them carrying EFF t-shirts that expressed their political views.

In the picture, two boys are holding up t-shirts with the words: "EFF our last hope of getting our land back", and on the other is written: "Loading 2019".

The two pupils have been charged with the contravention of the school's code of conduct and social media policies.

KZN Education department spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa says the officials are going to the school over allegations of racism.

"This comes after a number of reports came through to our offices, suggestion that there are allegations of racism at that school. We are led by the deputy director", adds Mthethwa.

Meanwhile the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have pledged their support to the learners.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi  says if the school doesn't drop those charges, then it will be faced with the full might of the EFF mass power.

The National Department of Basic Education says the school principal and the SGC were told not to press ahead with charges.

"One of the reasons being the learners are in grade 12 and they are a few days away from writing their final exams", added spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga.
