A man was killed after being struck by a train in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands on Thursday, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the man was walking with a friend along the railway track near the small town of Balgowan, north of Howick on Thursday afternoon.
The man was walking along the track about 800 metres from the Balgowan railwaystation when he was struck and suffered extensive injuries that were fatal, Botha said.
Paramedics declared the man, estimated to be in his 20s, dead on the scene.
His friend was physically unharmed, but according to Botha the man was visibly traumatised at his narrow escape and witnessing his friend’s death.
Police are investigating.
