Comair's Wrenelle Stander says the workers must return to work pending the outcome of the court case.

Numsa affiliated members downed tools at the company, which operates Kulula and British Airways in South Africa, on Thursday over salary discrepancies.

"The court judgement has now been issued and judgement has been reserved and the union has been interdicted until the judgement has been handed down. At about 1 o'clock today our staff went on strike, they will now have to return to duty."

The airline initially proposed that the high earners should be denied wage increases until the salaries of other workers catch up.

However this proposal was rejected by Numsa, with the union saying it cannot allow the violation of the principle of equal pay for work of equal value in the workplace.

Stander says operations are in full swing and no interruptions of their services have been reported.
