Latest polling data shows ANC hovering at 50% of vote
Independent Elections Analyst Dawie Scholtz says the latest polling data points to the ANC falling below the 50% mark during next year’s general elections.
Scholtz was commenting on the release of the latest research data by the Independent Polling System of Society (Ipsos).
“The mid-point projection of the poll is that the ANC 50%, DA 14%, and EFF 13% and then the IFP and ActionSA at 4% each. The 15% is made up of smaller parties like the Patriotic Alliance, ATM, UDM,” Scholtz says.
“There is not much data on the impact of independent candidates, but they do not have much impact on local government. We have to wait and see what they do on the national government level.”
Scholtz says it’s clear that the ANC is gradually losing its grip on power.
“It is inevitable that South Africa is going to coalition government nationally in the near future because the ANC is losing power. There are different polls which show different results, some show the DA higher others show it lower but the truth is somewhere in-between the results of all these polls”.
According to Ipsos, 69% of eligible voters indicated that they are registered to vote.
