Lawyer can't confirm withdrawal of suspension notice
Gauteng Hawks head Maj-Gen Shadrack Sibiya's lawyer on Wednesday could not confirm a report that the notice to suspend Sibiya had been withdrawn.
"Well, I've not received any communication from the State Attorney's office.
By the close of business yesterday [Tuesday], I did not receive any communication," Victor Nkhwashu told Sapa.
Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi could not immediately be reached for comment.
Eyewitness News reported that it had learnt that Sibiya's suspension notice had been withdrawn.
Sibiya was due to head to the Labour Court on Wednesday to challenge the suspension notice from the Hawks, which was served on him last Monday.
He was given a week to give reasons why he should not be suspended.
The charge relates to Sibiya's alleged involvement in facilitating the illegal rendition of Zimbabweans.
Senior Hawks official Colonel Leslie Maluleke was also reportedly served with a notice of suspension last week, while on December 23 Hawks boss Anwa Dramat was suspended also over his alleged involvement in the November 2010 renditions.
