Legendary poet Don Mattera passes away
Legendary poet and author Don Mattera has passed away at the age of 86, his family confirmed on Monday.
Mattera’s death comes only a few days after the unveiling of his star on Joburg Theatre’s walk of fame.
He was not only known for his writing, but also for his commitment to the struggle against apartheid.
In January 2020, the Don Mattera Legacy Foundation was launched in Eldorado Park in order "to ensure that Mattera's legacy remains relevant to the current as well as future generations”.
Mattera will be buried at Avalon Cemetery in Johannesburg on Monday according to Muslim rites.
