Lekompo musician Shebe Maburna willing to pay R100k bail
The Polokwane High Court has heard that Limpopo Musician, Shebe Maburna real name Lehlogonolo Chauke is willing to pay R100 000 if released on bail.
Chauke’s legal team returned to court on Thursday to challenge the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court’s recent decision to deny him bail.
His senior counsel, Laurence Hodes, argued the appeal is based on new facts and maintained his client has never breached bail conditions.
“My learned friend submitted a few minutes ago that the appellant had breached his bail conditions by committing Schedule 1 offences and that this formed part of his bail conditions. With respect, My Lady, that is not correct. The bail conditions are clearly set out on the record."
Hodes said that at no stage did any court impose such a condition, adding that it goes without saying that one should not commit offences and that elevating that to a breach of bail conditions is incorrect.
He maintained Chauke never breached his bail conditions.
"This becomes significant because the appellant had previously been released on bail on all of these charges, including at least one Schedule 6 offence, where a court found that exceptional circumstances justified his release,” Hodes submitted.
He further told the court Chauke was willing to pay R100 000 bail if released.

However, State Advocate Eric Mabapa opposed the application, saying it repeats previous arguments and alleged that some offences were committed while Chauke was already out on bail.
“The appellant has also shown no respect for the justice system, as some of the offences were allegedly committed while he was out on bail in other matters,” he said.
Chauke has twice been denied bail, with a previous appeal dismissed in December 2025.
His pre-trial hearing is set for 10 September in the Polokwane Regional Court, where he faces 21 charges, including culpable homicide, attempted murder and robbery.
The Polokwane High Court has reserved judgment in the bail appeal until 5 August.
