Lesufi condemns Saulsville mass shooting and Brakpan murder
Updated | By Jacaranda Newswatch
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has condemned the murders that have occurred in the province this weekend.
Lesufi has expressed his deepest condolences to the families affected by Saturday morning's horrific mass shooting at the Saulsville Hostel in Pretoria.
The incident claimed the lives of 12 people, including three minors, and left 13 others injured.
Premier Lesufi has described the murders as heartbreaking and unacceptable acts of criminality that has no place in the Gauteng Province.
“We are distressed by the loss of innocent lives, including young children, in this senseless act of violence. Our hearts go out to the families who are grieving today.
"As the Gauteng Provincial Government, we will not allow our communities to live in fear,” said Lesufi.
Law enforcement authorities, supported by specialized units, are currently following strong leads and working around the clock to track down the suspects responsible for the attack.
Lesufi has also urged law enforcement urgencies to fastback an investigation into the killing of Madlanga Commission witness Marius Van der Merwe in Brakpan on Friday night.
“The killing of Mr Van der Merwe is deeply disturbing. We call on the community to cooperate fully with authorities. Any destruction or obstruction of justice will not be tolerated,” Lesufi said.
