Lesufi: ‘Coward’ Janusz Walus will never enjoy life

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says Janusz Walus’ release on parole doesn’t mean he will ever get to enjoy his life.
The Department of Justice and Correctional Services confirmed that Chris Hani’s killer was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.
He has been officially released on parole “under strict conditions”.
His release follows last month’s Constitutional Court ruling, which ordered the government to release the Polish immigrant on parole.
Walus has served 28 years of a life sentence for murdering then-SACP leader Chris Hani in 1993.
Lesufi says although the release was expected, it remains disappointing.
"We expected it, it's a court decision, we just demonstrated against that decision but we knew the Constitutional Court have taken a decision.
“But it's a sad day, those who know who Chris Hani was, and those that know what Chris Hani's role was in being where we are today, will know that that murderer doesn't deserve to be out of prison.
“But if a decision was taken by the court we will respect that, the minister tried, he is the one that took the matter to court and that decision was overtaken by the Constitutional Court.
“We had a session with the minister on the front line of our national executive committee meeting, and he took us into detail, about the preparation for the release.
So we are not surprised the minister briefed us, but obviously disappointed, hugely disappointed," says Lesufi.
Lesufi says Walus will never enjoy his life.
"There is nothing else, fate will meet him Janusz Walus must not think that he will enjoy life when he has killed Chris Hani.
He will never enjoy life and wherever he goes he must know he is a loser and there is nothing heroic about him. He is a coward actually, he killed somebody who was unarmed and he killed our hero.”
“So he can go and rot wherever he is going to rot and he must know we are very angry, I hope the shade of protection will always be around him because we don't think he deserves to be even in our country.
“We wish him all the bad luck that he needs in this world and whatever that he needs to get, we are very angry with him he must know he will never have a hero's welcome from us."
