Police are investigating the murder of a farmer in Thabazimbi during a suspected house robbery on Tuesday morning.
The 68-year-old man and his wife were attacked by two suspects, believed to be their employees at the Dwaalboom farm.
Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the wife was injured after she was burnt by the suspects.
"They then ransacked the house and took two plasma television sets, firearms, cellphones, tools, and other items. The suspects loaded the robbed items into the victims’ VW Amarok and fled the scene."
The suspects were spotted by police driving around Bela Bela and a shoot-out ensued.
One suspect was killed and his accomplice wounded in the shooting.
"Both suspects have been identified and are believed to have been employed at the same farm,” says Mojapelo.
“Police investigations are unfolding to determine if additional suspects were also involved. We are investigating cases of murder, attempted murder, and house robbery."
