Limpopo man arrested for alleged rape of two minors
A 74-year-old man has been arrested in Limpopo for the alleged rape of two girls aged five and eight.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said members of the Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested the suspect following investigations into allegations that he raped the children earlier this year.
Police say the suspect, who is related to the victims and lived with them, was arrested at his home on Monday night.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Jan Scheepers has condemned the alleged crimes.
"It is deeply disturbing that a person entrusted with the care and protection of a child could instead become the source of their harm."
Scheepers added that police are committed to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
"We will ensure that this matter is thoroughly investigated, for children and families to get justice. SAPS Limpopo remains committed to protecting our children and will not relent in our fight against crimes targeting the most vulnerable members of our society."
The suspect is expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of rape.
Police investigations are ongoing.
