Police in Limpopo have arrested a 34-year-old suspect for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death in Shawela Village near Giyani.
Sunday’s incident led to protests by angry community members on Monday morning.
Provincial police commissioner Thembi Hadebe said the community traced the suspect to Nsavulani village, which is located in another section of Shawela Village.
Police arrested the suspect at his hideout on Monday morning.
Hadebe lauded what she described as the community’s positive and cooperative response.
“This case is a clear demonstration that, when police and the community work together, justice is served. I want to applaud all those who came forward with positive information that led to the imminent arrest of this ruthless suspect,” said Hadebe.
The suspect will appear in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where he will face a charge of murder.
