A 34-year old Limpopo man is set to appear in court on Thursday in connection with the murder and rape of a Grade R pupil
The pupil, from Baithudi Mohlahledi Primary School in Serageng village, passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment in a hospital in Polokwane.
The man later arrested after being assaulted by members of the community.
Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the Grade R pupil was first reported missing and later found brutally raped.
The suspect faces charges of murder, abduction and rape.
Meanwhile, provincial education spokesperson Sam Makondo expressed his shock at the incident, saying children should be able to live without the fear of being harmed.
"It is sad to lose such a young life that has just started with her formal education with the potential of becoming anything she wants to be in life.”
