Limpopo premier reshuffles her cabinet, axes three MECs in performance overhaul
Limpopo Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, has announced a major reshuffle of the Provincial Executive Council, citing a rigorous assessment and the need to strengthen service delivery.
Basikopo Makamu was moved from Cooperative Governance to Agriculture, while Violet Mathye was removed as MEC for Transport and Community Safety and replaced by former Agriculture MEC, Nakedi Kekana.
Sports, Arts and Culture MEC, Jerry Maseko, has also been removed, with Constance Kupa-Mabuza taking over the portfolio.
Newly sworn-in Member of the Provincial Legislature and former Mopani District executive mayor, Pule Shai, has been appointed as the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs.

Former mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse, Eddie Maila, who was also sworn in as a Member of the Provincial Legislature on Wednesday, takes over as MEC for Health, replacing Dieketseng Mashego.
The departments of Education, Social Development and Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure remain unchanged.

Ramathuba said the changes were in response to the residents’ lived experiences and are aimed at ensuring that the administration meets the highest requirements for operational efficiency and service provision.
She acknowledged that Limpopo faces significant structural challenges, including high levels of unemployment, persistent poverty and hurdles in accessing basic services and challenged the newly reconstituted Executive Council to view these not as obstacles, but as urgent mandates.
"To the new Executive Council, I reiterate: the people of Limpopo are watching and they are waiting for results. We are here to serve and our success will be measured by our ability to turn around the lives of the ordinary residents in our villages, townships and towns. This administration must be characterised by work, dedication and an unwavering commitment to inclusive growth," Ramathuba added.
