The Polokwane High Court has sentenced serial rapist and robber Lesley Mohlala to a cumulative 222 years in jail.

This follows his re-arrest in 2023 after he escaped police custody in October 2018.
According to police reports Mohlala escaped from lawful custody while being transported to Witbank Prison in Mpumalanga for rape charges.
Police spokesperson in the province, Malesela Ledwaba, says that during the time of his escape, Mohlala terrorised Nebo and Hlogotlou in the Sekhulhune municipality.
Ledwaba says Mohlala targeted government buildings, clinics, traffic stations, public works offices and other public facilities during his reign of terror.
“His criminal activities included robbing security officers of their firearms and cellphones, committing a series of robberies where victims were stripped of belongings, including cell phones and money, creating an atmosphere of fear in the affected communities,” said Ledwaba.
“Mohlala was re-arrested at a Jane Furse hiding place by Nebo Jane Furse tracking team members.”
He was charged with eight robberies and DNA evidence linked him to two additional rape cases that occurred while he was an unknown suspect.
