Lionesses removed from Hoedspruit lodge after killing owner
A 69-year-old owner of a Hoedspruit lodge was mauled to death by two of his lionesses on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at the Lion Tree Game Lodge in the Mopani District of Limpopo.
It’s alleged that Arthur Mathewson was killed by the lionesses during one of their usual walks.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the attack took place while his wife “helplessly” watched on.
“The Police and emergency services were activated and on arrival, the man was found with multiple injuries. He was declared dead on the scene.”

The lionesses have since been moved to another game lodge in the area.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has warned members of the society especially the owners, to be careful around dangerous animals to avoid these tragic incidents from happening.
Mojapelo says police are investigating the incident.
