LISTEN: Aspen helps govt evacuate SA students from Ukraine
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Pharmaceutical giant Aspen Pharmacare is assisting the Department of International Relations and Corporation to evacuate some 25 South African students from war-torn Ukraine.
The first ten students will land at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday morning.
Thirteen are expected to return on the weekend while the remaining two will be back next week because they tested positive for Covid-19.
Aspen's Stavros Nicolaou says the company made an appeal to government over the weekend for the safe return of the students.
"Our students are our future, and it is important that the Spirit of Ubuntu prevailed and that together with our government, we were able to move swiftly to ensure their safe and timely return.

"We hope that they will be able to resume their studies in the not-too-distant future.
"Aspen is particularly privileged to have played a role at this time where we are witnessing a Global Humanitarian Crisis unfold before our eyes."
The invasion of Ukraine is entering its third week.
This has seen scores of foreign students and other nationals cross into neighbouring countries like Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
