LISTEN: EFF fuels speculation of ritual killing in Hillary Gardee case
Speculation of a ritual killing are rife in the Hillary Gardee murder.
This after the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) pronounced some of the latest developments in a case that gripped the country at the start of the month.
Hillary, the daughter of former EFF secretary-general Godrich Gardee, was found dead outside Nelspruit in Mpumalanga after a frantic search by family and law enforcement.
An autopsy told a brutal story of rape, torture and a gunshot wound to the head.
Three men were arrested and face charges of murder, conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, rape, possession of firearms and defeating the ends of justice.
While family and friends continue to mourn Hillary's death, new details have emerged about the murder.
"It looked like something that had to do with a ritual and therefore I will not be personally shocked when there is muti is involved and all matter of things," Malema said to journalists at a media briefing following the party's central command team meeting on Monday.
"It was going beyond the issues of just murder and rape, it had to do with something that people are obsessed with."
According to Malema, a fourth culprit is linked to a R500 000 bank transfer.
But the details remain unclear.
"We are involved in the investigation; we have employed private investigators. Majority of people who have been arrested were arrested through our intervention, the latest being somewhere in Witbank," Malema added.
Police in Mpumalanga are disputing the reports of a fourth arrest.
"The only missing puzzle in the whole thing is how she got captured. We know that when she arrived at the lodge what happened and all manner of things but from the shops and how she got captured and how she arrived at the lodge and who captured her - that detail is still missing and that's what we are on top of," Malema said.
"Police are doing everything in their power, working with us to make sure that we bring this matter to its finality."
The red berets have also vowed to apply pressure on law enforcement to ensure speedy prosecutions.
