The Hawks have swooped on former eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede and will be seizing her assets on Thursday.

According to the Hawks' Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, the raids on Thursday morning were a continuation of their investigation into corruption in eThekwini and would continue throughout the day.

They were working with the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) and Mulaudzi said "There are a number of places we'll be visiting."

Gumede was not at the address that was provided as her residential address though.

Mulaudzi says they are still; in talsk with the prosecutors in the case and there would be legal implications if she had changed

"She might have violated her bail conditions because she should have informed the investigating officer she was going to move to another place and that she did not do," says Mulaudzi.

Gumede resigned in August after she and her executive were recalled by the provincial structures due to poor service delivery.

Gumede is currently out on bail of R50 000 bail after being accused of fraud and corruption worth millions related to a waste tender issued by the city.
