[LISTEN] Hillary Gardee funeral: Dad Godrich gives first indication of all her injuries
Godrich Gardee listed the injuries and wounds found on the
body of his daughter, Hillary, who was brutally murdered this week.
Gardee paid tribute to his 28-year old daughter during the funeral service held at the Church on the Hill hall in Kamagugu in Mpumalanga.
Gardee says his daughter’s gruesome death can be placed at the door of the silence of the community who harbour criminals and the failure of law enforcement to clamp down on gender based violence.
“I now turn to those who killed you. More than hundred have been kidnapped and been released of left to release themselves. Their silence and the silence of their close friends killed you. Those hundreds and their friends who knew and came before you failed to report nor do follow up on this crime of abduction to use captives’ ATM cards and their pin codes. Their silence and the silence of the community and incompetence of police with active dockets of hundreds of similar incidents killed you, my dear.”
Gardee continued to say that the silence of the country against this new crime of abduction killed his daughter.
He warned the suspects that are on the run that they have nowhere to hide and that they shall be found.
“And better the police find them before we do for we cannot guarantee their life after citizen capture.”
Gardee says he will set up a Hillary Gardee Foundation as a legacy project.
On Friday evening, Mpumalanga police confirmed the arrest of a male suspect who is expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Police expect to make more arrests.
