LISTEN: How much presence will Supra still have in NW?

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga has questioned how much of a role former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo will still play in the province.

The curtain finally closed on Mahumapelo’s premiership on Wednesday when he finally tendered his resignation, stating that he is going on 'early retirement'.

"The wording of his departure is something else, you never know how much he will be gone or how much of him they will continue to see.

"I don't understand what is early retirement in the first place. Will he relinquish the position of the chair of the ANC in the North West? What is clear is that he will no longer be the Premier," says Mathekga.

Mahumapelo will remain the ANC chairperson in the North West, even though he has relinquished his premiership.

Mathekga believes Mahumapelo's political clout in North West will rely heavily on his relationship with the provincial executive committee.

"The question here will be about his relationship with the provincial structure of the ANC, that will also determine the space that the party might have in trying to rebuild whatever lost ground they might have had as a result of the debacle that has ensue d in those last few weeks of his Premiership.”
