The disruptions were sparked by the death of a student, who was allegedly shot and killed by police when SRC elections turned violent two weeks ago.

After a week of mourning, classes continued to be disrupted and property damaged.

Academic activities were suspended on Thursday until further notice.

"The University will appear in the Pretoria High Court at 10 am this morning to apply for an interdict against the violence, the ongoing protest action and damage to property," says spokesperson Willa de Ruyter.

She emphasised activities at all other TUT campuses continue as scheduled.

"The situation will be monitored and we will make an announcement on the way forward," added De Ruyter.
