LISTEN: Vicki Momberg denied leave to appeal
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The Randburg Magistrates Court has denied Vicki Momberg leave to appeal her conviction of crimen injuria as well as her effective two-prison sentence.
Momberg was found guilty on four counts of crimen injuria for using the K-word 48 times during a racist rant in 2016.
She was sentenced to three years in prison with one year suspended.
Momberg is currently serving her two-year sentence.
The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Phindi Mjonondwane says this is another victory for the state.
"As the state we are happy with the court's decision because we believe that we successfully discharged the onus of proving the case beyond reasonable doubt. We also successfully proved that Ms Momberg acted unlawfully," says Mjonondwane.
She says there have not received any indication from Momberg's lawyers on possible plans to approach the high court to ask for leave to appeal
