Load shedding ramped up to stage 6 as 10 units fail
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Eskom announced on Monday afternoon that stage 6 load shedding will be implemented from 4pm until 5am on Tuesday.
The embattled power utility says this is due to delays in returning 10 generating units to service.
A generating unit each at Arnot, Duvha, Hendrina, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Majuba, Matimba, and two generating units at Camden power stations remain offline due to breakdowns.
Eskom's Menzi Mngomezulu says power cuts will be reduced to stage 4 from 5am on Tuesday until 4pm.
"This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice," says Mngomezulu.
“Breakdowns stand at 18 751MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is at 2 407MW.”
Mngomezulu says over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Hendrina and Kendal power stations was returned to service.
"In the same period, a generation unit each at Duvha, Kriel and Tutuka power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns.”
