Lunchtime news - Eskom suspends four executives

Four senior Eskom executives, including chief executive Tshediso Matona, have been asked to step aside as the power utility embarks on a fact-finding inquiry.

Eskom Chairman Zola Tsotsi says the inquiry is not an investigation of any wrong doing but will look into the poor performance of generation plants, high cost of primary energy and cash flow problems.

 

 

Eskom group executive Thava Govender said the system has been doing  well but the risk of loadshedding for Thursday and Friday was high. 

 

"The likelihood for load shedding for Thursday night and certainly Friday. If generating units don't come back the likelihood of load shedding stage 2 for Saturday and Sunday is high. 

 

THE Democratic alliance's motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma will be debated in Parliament on Tuesday.  

 

DA Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane's spokesperson Mabine Seabe says it is important that South African's reflect on the actions and inactions of the President.

 

"Under his Presidency institutions of accountability and maintaining the law, like the NPA, the Hawks and the SIU are crumbling. We have also seen unemployment, poverty and inequality rise under his Presidency and it is important that we reflect on his actions," he says. 

 


TWO people were killed in a plane crash at the Potchefstroom Airport in North West on Thursday. 


It is suspected the experimental Raven Aircraft came in to land when it crashed in a field adjacent to the airfield killing both occupants on impact. 

 

GEORGE Louca's lawyer Owen Blumberg has confirmed that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer. 

 


Louca is charged with the murder of Teazers boss Lolly Jackson and is currently receiving treatment in a Johannesburg facility. 

 


Blumberg says the cancer is clearly visible on one of his lungs.
