Lunch time news: The Rand at its lowest in 13 years

THE Rand is staggering on the verge of its lowest levels in 13 years.

The US Dollar started strengthening on Friday to its highest levels since 2003, leading to pressure on all developing markets.

 

While concern remains over South Africa’s trade deficit.

 

 Efficient Group Economist Francois Stoffberg says the Rand could remain week for the rest of the year.

 

“The overall expectations have been that the US economy will be strong this year, the downgrade they said they going to give us a chance to implement the Ministers budget especially regarding the wage negotiations, he says”.

 

 

THE local music industry's is shocked by the news that well known Skwatta Camp rapper Nkululeko Habedi known as Flabba was murdered at a house in Alexandra on Monday.

 

 A woman alleged to have been his girlfriend has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.

THE High Court sitting in Palm Ridge heard of the day in August last year, when bullets were fired in a Westbury street, that claimed the life of three-year old Luke Tibbetts’.

 

Tibbets’ was sitting on his mom's lap in a car, when the toddler was fatally hit by a stray bullet.

 

State witness Keenan Mokwena told the court about the argument between him and murder accused Lindray Khakhu.

 

Mokwena says they drove away after the argument and they heard shots.

 

"I turned around and saw him shooting at me, we drove further into Ruben street and the shooting stopped" he says.
