M1 rehabilitation project to take longer
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Johannesburg motorists are urged to exercise more patience for another 10 months as work continues in the M1 rehabilitation project.

The R210 million project has been delayed due to weather, geotechnical issues and labour disputes.
Upgrades to the Oxford, Federation & Double Decker bridges will now only be completed by the end of 2017.
Progress on the Oxford and Federation bridges is at 65% against 70% of time lapsed.
Things are moving much slower on the Double Decker bridges, where progress is only standing at 10% - with 61% of time lapsed.
The R210milion project was originally scheduled to be completed early next year.
Traffic engineer from the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Esther Schmidt warns of more road closures beginning in January.
"Between 22 January and 12 February 2017...due to the nature of the repair work, we will have to close down one lane on both carriageways for that time period. It is a 20 day time period. Mark it in your diary," says Schmidt.
Transport MMC Nonhlanhla Makhuba says they are painfully aware of motorists making alternative arrangements and heeding their call to avoid the construction areas during peak hours.
She now asks road users to - once again - bear with them.
"Take time to plan you journey. Make greater use of the public transport our city has to offer and investigate alternative routes in the area," says Makhuba.
JRA's Managing Director Sean Phillips also addressed potholes in the city.
